Sylvia Houston "Toby" Tobias

Sylvia Houston “Toby” Tobias, 76, of Channelview, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the Kindred Hospital in Pasadena.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Toby was born March 30, 1940 in Marlin, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in Channelview since 1966. He was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School, attended the University of Houston, was a veteran of the US Navy. He was former GE Electric employee, and retired as a computer programmer from the Harris County Tax Office. He also was a country western dance instructor at San Jacinto College. Toby enjoyed fishing, hunting, bee keeping, leather work, gardening, and carpentry.

Mr. Tobias is preceded in death by his parents: Bonivar A. and Betty Matysiak Tobias. He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Shirley Martin Tobias of Channelview, son: Michael Tobias of Crosby, grandchildren: Ty, Kayla, and Austin Tobias, numerous other relatives and friends.
