Obituary

Thelma Lee Porter, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Texas, passed away May 21, 2026. Born on July 11, 1937, in Cleveland, Texas, to Arthur and Lydia Blackwell. Thelma spent her life building a home filled with warmth, laughter, good food, and unconditional love.

To most, she was simply Thelma. But to those who loved her best, she was “Nanny” “Mama” and “Aunt T” — titles she carried proudly and lovingly. She was the heart of her family and the soul of Macedonia. In fact, many affectionately called her the “Mayor of Macedonia” because if something was happening in town, Thelma already knew about it. Nothing slipped by her, and she loved keeping up with the people and community she cared so deeply about.

Thelma never met a stranger. Her home was always open, her porch always welcoming, and there was always time for a visit or a long phone conversation. Some of the sweetest memories shared by family and friends happened right there on her front porch, where stories were told, laughter echoed, and everyone felt at home. She had a gift for making people feel loved and seen.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, whom loved deeply and faithfully. Later in life, one of Thelma’s greatest blessings and proudest joys was her beloved granddaughter, Victoria. She treasured every moment spent with her and loved her beyond measure. Victoria brought so much happiness, laughter, and light into her life, and their bond was one that will forever be cherished by all who witnessed it. Thelma also found joy in cooking, making jelly, caring for others, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved most.

She was a devoted homemaker whose kindness and hospitality touched countless lives. Macedonia will never be the same without her presence, her stories, her laughter, and the comfort of knowing Thelma was always just a phone call or porch visit away.

Thelma is survived by her loving and faithful daughter, Diane Presswood and husband Seab; cherished and beloved granddaughter, Victoria Havard; son-in-law, Bart Havard; loving nephew, Floyd Page and wife Gail; niece, Brenda Rivers and husband Tim; son-in-law, sister-in-law, Geneva Porter; niece-in-law, Debbie Page; along with numerous other family members and a host of dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Archie Porter; beloved daughter, Donna Havard; loving sister, Clara Page; and cherished nephew, Horace Page.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caretaker, Mary Cisneros of Helping Hands Elderly Care, whose kindness, compassion, and loving presence brought comfort and peace to Thelma each day. We also extend our deepest thanks to Horizon Hospice for the gentle and caring support they provided to both Thelma and her family during such a difficult time. Your love, patience, and dedication will never be forgotten.

Though her family’s hearts are heavy, they find comfort knowing Heaven welcomed home a woman whose life was filled with love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those around her. The porch may now sit quieter, but the memories made there will live on forever.
