Tracy Kent LaBuff, 67, of Ames, Texas, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 11, 2025. He was born on September 17, 1957, in Baytown, Texas, to parents L.V. Shelton LaBuff and Peggy Joyce Littlefield.
Tracy was raised in Mont Belvieu and Tarkington, where he attended Tarkington High School. Over the years, he lived in several Texas communities including Kenefick and Coldspring, before settling in Ames, where he had lived for the past 18 years.
Tracy shared a deep bond with his beloved wife Twila; they had been together since 2002 and married since 2011. He was a dedicated husband who found great joy in watching Twila compete in barrel racing.
A self-employed pipeliner by trade, Tracy was a hardworking man who loved working his cows, raising and hauling bucking bulls, and operating heavy equipment—dozers, track hoes, and more—often working day and night.
Known for his big heart and helping hands, Tracy was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. He once built a levee during a flood to protect his community and was always there for anyone in need. Above all, his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Tracy is preceded in death by his parents, L.V. and Peggy LaBuff, and brothers Elvis LaBuff and Raymond LaBuff.
He is survived by his devoted wife Twila LaBuff; son Clayton LaBuff; stepdaughter Casey Wurz and husband Robert Wurz; brother Roy LaBuff and wife BB; sister Shele LaBuff; and his cherished grandchildren: Robert Cameron LaBuff, Tobias Jackson LaBuff, and Chasyn Race Wurz.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15, also at Pace-Stancil, followed by burial at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Pastor David Hilton and Coby Trent Elliott will officiate.
Pallbearers: Jeff Club, Kirk Graham, Kevin Campbell, Cameron LaBuff, Jose Luis Gonzalez, Winston Sizemore Jr., Robert Wurz, Jason Taylor, and Derrick Haag.
Honorary Pallbearers: Clayton LaBuff, Winston Sizemore Sr., John Brett, Pat Henscey, Carl Durdin, and Clarence Ganson.
Tracy will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His legacy of hard work and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
