Vernon Lewis Thornton, 72, of Baytown, Texas, passed away on May 14, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1953, in Dayton, Texas, to Robert Thornton and Esther Murphy Thornton.
Vernon was a skilled leather craftsman who worked at a saddle shop, where he poured his talent and passion into every piece he created. One of the highlights of his career was working on a saddle for President John F. Kennedy—a testament to his artistry and dedication. Vernon also had a deep love for music; he found great joy in singing and playing the guitar, sharing his gift with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Esther Thornton, as well as his brothers-in-law, Greg Williams and Allan Barrow.
Vernon is survived by his brother, Robert L. Thornton, Jr. and wife Charlotte; his sisters, Nancy Williams and Bobbie Barrow; nephews Guy Williams and wife Brandi, Corey Thornton, Dean Barrow and wife Kara, Cliff Thornton, and Chris Barrow and wife Darla; niece, Tammi Day; along with numerous other family members and a host of cherished friends.
Vernon will be remembered for his warm heart, creative hands, and the music and memories he shared with all who knew him.
