Obituary

Virginia Ann Smith, affectionately known to family, friends, and so many in the community as "Granny Short Legs," was born on February 27, 1945, in Cleveland, Texas to Robert and Maxine Cheatham. She peacefully passed away, leaving behind a lifetime of treasured memories, unconditional love, and a legacy of kindness that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Virginia was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, proud great-grandmother, beloved sister, aunt, and faithful friend. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel at home. Whether through a warm smile, a heartfelt conversation, or a plate of homemade treats, Virginia had a way of making everyone feel loved, welcomed, and important.

She dedicated nearly 15 years of her life to Boyett's Restaurant, where she formed lasting friendships while serving her community with a smile. Later, she began a second career with H&R Block, where she spent more than 30 years helping countless families with their taxes. She was not only respected for her knowledge but also loved as a patient mentor and teacher who genuinely enjoyed helping others learn and succeed.

Virginia found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved crocheting beautiful keepsakes for those she loved and was happiest in the kitchen baking for family and friends. Christmas was always her favorite season. Nothing brought her greater happiness than gathering around the table with her grandchildren, making Christmas cookies, sharing laughter, and creating traditions that will be cherished for generations.

Those who knew Virginia will forever remember her quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and wonderfully sassy personality. She had a way of making people laugh even on difficult days, and her loving heart touched countless lives. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was the family she loved so deeply. Nothing meant more to her than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating every milestone and creating memories they will forever hold close.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Jack Smith; her loving mother, Louise Cheatham; her son-in-law, Milton Conner; her brother, Ray Cheatham; and her sisters, Roberta Griffith and Gwen McKee.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her loving daughters, Teresa "Terri" Stetson and husband Kel Ray, and Candy Conner Feldman and husband Michael; her beloved grandchildren, Kayla Stetson, Wade Stetson, Misty Goodrum and husband Michol, and Mitchell Conner and wife Brooke; her treasured great-grandchildren, Hunter Steele, Gatlin Steele, Kye Conner, and Wes Conner; her siblings, Darlene Wakefield, Wayne Cheatham and wife Barbara, John Cheatham, Sue Guynes, Bill Cheatham and wife Ginger, Shannon Cheatham and wife Kristen, and LaNita Laskoskie and husband Justin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends whose lives were blessed by knowing her.

Though her family grieves the loss of her earthly presence, they find comfort in knowing that the love she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the traditions she created will continue to live on. Virginia's gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unconditional love that will forever remain in the hearts of those blessed to call her "Granny Short Legs."
