Obituary

Virginia Ann Sykes-Brown, 81, of Dayton, TX passed away surrounded by her loving family on the morning of December 29, 2025.Born May 2, 1944 in Liberty, TX, Ann was a kind and generous soul who throughout her life had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and arts and crafts, and loved teaching her grandchildren these favorite hobbies. She also enjoyed working in the yard, mowing the grass, and tending to all her plants and flowers. Most of all, Ann cherished her travels with Lee, her husband of more than 30 years. Together she and Lee traveled to 47 different countries and visited all 50 U.S. states, though Hawaii was always her favorite. When they weren’t traveling or visiting family across the country, they enjoyed sitting together on the porch drinking coffee and watching hummingbirds and squirrels in the yard.Ann had immense love and admiration for her family. Anyone who knew her knew she had the kindest heart and would help anyone in a moment’s notice.Ann is reunited in Heaven with her first husband, JC Sykes, and her son, Doug Sykes.Left to cherish her memory on Earth is her husband of 35 years, Lee Brown; sons, Jeff Sykes (Karen), James Sykes (Jean), and Richard Sykes; stepdaughter, Leslie Brown Gallegos (Andy); 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one special niece with a bond like a sister, Sherry. Lest we forget Ann’s two fur babies, Casper and Rowdy. The family has arranged private services but thanks you for the outpouring of love and support through this difficult time.
