Wayne “Bubba” Abshire, 72, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Bubba was born on October 24, 1953, to Ophed “Sube” Abshire and Nola Mary Monceaux.
A lifelong resident of Dayton, Bubba was deeply rooted in his community and his faith as a member of the Catholic Church. In his younger years, he had a love for rodeo and was an all-around athlete, playing all sports during his high school years. That love for competition and camaraderie stayed with him throughout his life, as he continued playing softball as an adult.
Bubba was a true people person. He loved to socialize, sit by the fire, and spend long, easy hours on the front porch visiting with friends and family. The outdoors brought him peace, and he especially enjoyed soaking up the simple pleasures of life outside. A devoted fan of classic westerns, Bubba was a self-proclaimed John Wayne buff and could happily spend hours watching his favorite films.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ophed “Sube” Abshire and Nola Mary Monceaux Abshire.
Bubba is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Angela Abshire; his sons, Kevin Campbell, Michael Abshire, and Matthew Abshire and wife Payton Chance Abshire; his sister, Diana Istre and husband Clifford; his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kaleb, Jaidyn, Paige and husband Eli, Carson, Jonah, Saydie, and Graham; his godmother, Anna Belle David; aunts Ethel Abshire, Margaret Stewart and husband Tony, Ella Harrington and husband Wilbur, and Pearl Guidry; uncles Leroy Abshire and Jerry Sonnier; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.
Pallbearers will be Michael Abshire, Chance Abshire, Matthew Abshire, Kevin Campbell, Carson Abshire, and Jonah Abshire. Honorary pallbearers include Kurt Gassett, Bo Kennedy, Rick Brightwell, Kyle Brightwell, Craig Abshire, Justin Abshire, Terry Abshire and Franklin Hillier.
Bubba will be remembered for his love of family, his friendly spirit, and the joy he found in the simple moments of life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
