BAILEY
Dolly Elnora Bailey went to be with the Lord on Sunday,
October 1, 2006 at the age of 103. Dolly was born May 18,
1903 in Cleveland, Texas, the daughter of the late James
Marlin Grady and Pearl Riggs Grady. She is preceded in death
by her husband, Graham Bailey and sister, Nancy Laura Stavinoha.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Louise Jasper and
husband, Henry S. Jasper, Jr., her grandsons, James Henry
Jasper, and wife, Claudette Jasper, Glenn Martin Jasper
and wife, Kay Jasper, Robert Dean Jasper and wife, Lisa
Jasper, her great-grandchildren, Amy Kristen Parker and
husband, Kevin Parker, Brent Martin Jasper, Justin Hayward
Jasper and wife, Annalisa Jasper, James Ryan Jasper, Lindsay
Kay Jasper, Geoffery Dean Jasper and Jonathan Garrett Jasper,
Dominic Michael Tortorice and wife, Brandi Tortorice, Vanessa
Michelle Tortorice; great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa Claire
Parker and Emma Michelle Tortorice. Dolly received a Bachelor
of Education Degree from Sam Houston State University and
a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Houston.
She taught school for 46 years, primarily in the Cleveland
area. She was a life long member of the First United Methodist
Church of Cleveland, where she taught Sunday School for
many years. She touched many lives, both as teacher and
through her church activities. Dolly will be missed dearly
by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services were held
at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Texas on
Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Interment followed
at Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist
Church, Cleveland, Texas.

Gilbert Arlan Robb, age 58, of Cleveland, Texas, passed
away Monday, October 2, 2006. He was born in Camp Camble,
Kentucky to Gilbert Henry and Greta Robb on March 3, 2006.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Robb; sons, Robert
Robb and wife, Paula, Gilbert H. Robb, Wayne Fowler and
wife, Denise, Dale E. Fowler and wife, Chaunteal; daughters,
Renee Robb, Dianna Walker and husband, Keith; grandchildren,
Delores, Jessica, Tyler, Adam, Zach, Jessie Krystal, Michael,
Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Alisae and many more loving
family members and caring friends.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 7, 2006,
11:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens, Cleveland,

Kayleb Dale Ard, 18, of Tarkington Prairie, Texas passed
away, Monday, October 2, 2006. Kayleb was born to James
and Susan Ard on August 10, 1988 in Woodville, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Oscar
Ard, John Ard; grandmothers, Peggy Alexander and Ollie Alexander;
great-grandmother, Mary Dean; aunt, Kay Walters; uncles,

Avis Lynn Stansell, 73, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away,

Douglas Holland Banks, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away
Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the age of 59. He was born
in Conroe, Texas on November 5, 1947 to Robert Ed and Mamie
Walker Blanks, both of whom preceded him in death along
with his brother, Edward Leon Blanks.
He is survived by his daughters, Becky Sue Cleary and Angela
Beacon; sisters, Janice Bailey, Mary Faulkner and husband,
Jerry, Cindy Connors; special friends, Joe Jones and Mary
Smith; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; special
grandson he raised, Josh Jones along with numerous step-children,

William E. Ashcraft, 71, of Anahauc died Friday, October
6, 2006 at home. He was born August 23, 1935 in Houston,
Texas to parents, William Earl and Joy M. Ashcraft. He had
worked as a welder and been a long time resident of Anahuac.
Memorial Service for Mr. Ashcraft will be 2:00 p.m., October

He was preceded in death by his parents and his survived

ZIMMERMAN
John Leonard Zimmerman, Sr., 72 of Coldspring, Texas, passed
away Sunday morning, October 8, 2006.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Roe
Zimmerman and his adoring children, Karen Zimmerman, John
Zimmerman, Jr. and wife, Aurora, Joe Zimmerman, Kathy Varga
and husband, Mike. His grandchildren include Lauren, Scott,
Ryan, Ashley, Chris, Kris, Susan, Cynthia; and his great-grandchildren
include, Chris and Olivia.
He was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on December 22, 1932
to John C. and Catherine Zimmerman. Survivors of his family
are his two sisters Kathryn and Joan; and his brother, Paul,
all residing in Reading, PA.
John fought for his country during the Korean war. He was
a Roman Catholic that dedicated all of his extra time to
his church and congregation of St. Stephens Catholic Church.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and taking care of
his family. He will be missed dearly.

Patricia Ann Moore, 67 of Dayton, died Thursday, October
12, 2006 at Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Baytown.
She was born August 17, 1939 in Ajax, LA to parents: Bill
Y. and Bernice Butler Coats. She was a graduate of Pleasant
Hill High School in Louisiana, former resident of Highlands,
and resided in Dayton for four years. Mrs. Moore enjoyed
watching TV, the Astros, reading her Star Magazine and her
Pepsi.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October
15, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with
burial following at Farley Chapel in Shepherd. Visitation
will be held Saturday, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil

Verna Lee Bartlett Padon, 87, of Liberty, died Friday,
October 13, 2006, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital
in Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October
17, 2006, at the Liberty Church of Christ with burial following
at Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held
from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Liberty Church of

Verna was born April 10, 1919 in Turnerville, to parents;
Joshua and Maude Lee Boring Bartlett, a former resident
of Odessa, and has resided in the Liberty for the past 69
years. She was a retired seamstress and former employee
of Modern Cleaners, Liberty Cleaners, Griffin’s Pharmacy,
and Lowe’s Motel. She was also a member of the Liberty
Church of Christ, and enjoyed senior citizen activities,
church camp, and playing dominoes.
Mrs. Padon was preceded in death by her parents, husband:
Juddson A. Padon, sisters: Velma Crittendon, Ann Parker,
Lucille Ray, and Georgia Eversole, brother: William Bartlett,

Ray Sessions Lebr, of Romayor, Texas, passed away, Tuesday,
October 17, 2006 at the age of 92. She was born in Rockdale,
Texas on February 24, 1914 to Thomas and Jessie Beesley.

Ray was devoted in service to her church family at St.

Chester and Joyce Templeton, husband and wife of Cleveland,
Texas, passed away October 20, 2006. Chester, was born in
Milam County, Texas on June 265, 1929 and Joyce was born
in Houston, Texas on October 10, 1937. Graveside services

at Wells Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
GRANBERRY
Dorothy Lou Granberry, Coldspring, Texas was called home
to be with the Lord on October 23, 2006. Born January 11,
1932 in El Paso, Texas, Lou and her husband, Irwin made
their home in Victoria, Texas for thirty years before settling
in Coldspring in 2003.
Lou was a member of Victory Gospel Church near Coldspring
and a former member of Faith Family Fellowship in Victoria.
Serving the Lord and sharing His love with others was her
life’s call.
Lou was a co-founder of Pathway Ministries, a Christian
counseling center in Victoria. She also taught in public
education for seventeen (17) years for Victoria I.S.D.
Blessed with fifty-three years of marriage to her husband,
she also leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Donna
and Rick Zagar; son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Teresa
Granberry; grandchildren, Justin and Misty Granberry, Kristin
and Ryan Jackson, Lauren and Tyler Maddox and David Zagar.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Caleb Bagley and
Noah Granberry, siblings, Jo and B.R. McGinty, Sally and
Jack Redford, Jerry and Steve Bargsley, and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
October 25, 2006 at Victory Gospel Church. Visitation will

MARTIN
Modena (Dean) Martin passed away on Monday, October.23,
2006 in Temple, TX at age 92. She was preceded in death
by her husband, B.B. Martin of Cleveland, and her mother
and father, Mary Louise and Edgar Y. Brooks of Livingston.
Dean is survived by her four children: Jack Martin and
his wife Evelyn of Satellite Beach, FL; Judy Martin Knox
and her husband, Alan of Reno, NV.; Skip Martin and Joni
Jennings of Rockport, TX.; Nancy Martin of Salado, TX.
Dean was blessed with 8 grandchildren: John E., Jr. and
Eric Martin; David Young and Kelly Bradley; Jeff Jarvis
and Janet Martin; Kristanne Slayton and Chad Clubb; 12 great
grand children: Lauren, Savannah, and John E. III (Trip)
Martin; Clint, Brice, and Jesse (J.R.) Martin; Greg, Rebecca,
and Steve Bradley; Sydney and Jeremy Jarvis; Zachary Slayton;
and one (1) great, great grandchild, Staci Bradley.
Dean and B.B. moved to Cleveland in 1942 to found Martin
Chevrolet Company and they were founding members of St.
Luke’s Presbyterian Church. During her nearly 50 years
in Cleveland, Dean provided visionary education for youth
as leader of a Junior Audubon Society and Cub Scout Troop.
In her later years, she resided in Reno, Nevada with her
daughters Nancy and Judy and her granddaughter, Kristanne.
Dean’s final transition was supported by the incredible
staff at the Temple Meridian where she was surrounded by
her family.
Services include a visitation at Pace Stancil Funeral
Home, 303 E. Crocket, Cleveland, TX on Thursday, October
26, 2006 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and funeral service at
Pace Stancil Friday October 27th at 10:00 AM. Dean will
be laid to rest next to her husband, B.B. Martin in Cleveland’s
City Cemetery. Interment will be followed by a light lunch
reception at the Methodist Church (…address).

Dobbs
D.C. “PeeWee” Dobbs, 67, of Bacliff, Texas
died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at home surrounded by his
beloved wife and children. He was born June 17, 1939 in
Durant, Oklahoma to parents, William F. and Eunice E. Taylor
Dobbs. He had been a resident of the Bacliff area for over
60 years and was a 1957 graduate of Clear Creek High School.
He had owned numerous businesses, was a pipe fitter and
welder for over 25 years, and was retired as owner-operator
of Dobbs Auto Sales and Wrecker Service in Bacliff. He was
very active in local civic activities and continually helped
those in need.
Services for Mr. Dobbs will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October
31, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Newmann
officiating. Interment will follow at French Cemetery in
Kenefick.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law:
Lloyd “Skeet” Thornton. He is survived by his

Maurine Bennett Barth, 69, of Dayton, died Thursday, October
26, 2006, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

28, 2006, at the Liberty Church of Christ with burial following
at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be

Maurine was born October 28, 1936 in Avoca, to parents;
Cecil A. and Eula M. Baker Bennett, a former resident of
Crockett, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past
27 years. She was a retired classified ads manager for the
Liberty Vindicator and former employee of the Mt. Pleasant
Daily Tribune and Crockett-Houston County Courier newspapers.
She was also a graduate of the Anson High School class of
1955, member of the Liberty Church of Christ, and enjoyed
crossword puzzles, sewing, and collecting china rabbits
and nutcrackers.
Mrs. Barth was preceded in death by her parents. She is
survived by her husband of 51 years: Robert G. Barth of
Dayton, sons: Mark Barth of Dallas and Danny Barth of Dayton,

daughter, Vivian Marie True. She is survived by her daughter,

Dillard
Sonny “Papaw” Dillard, 80, of Old River-Winfree
passed away Monday, October 30, 2006 in the San Jacinto
Methodist Hospital, surrounded by his family, after a year
long battle with Leukemia. He was born August 26, 1926 and
spent his lifetime in the Old River-Winfree area.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was
a Union Carpenter by trade working out of the Baytown Carpenters’
Local #1334. Though his life he drove crew boats, big trucks
and worked on rice farms. He enjoyed fishing, gardening
and traveling. In his younger days, he loved horses and
working cows. He was a longtime supporter of Chambers County
4-H Clubs and the Barbers Hill FFA Chapter. He was a member
of the South Dayton Baptist Church.
Services for Mr. Dillard will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
November 1, 2006 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in
Dayton with interment to follow at Heirlawn Cemetery in
Dayton. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 31, 2006, 5:00
to 9:00 p.m., at Pace-Stancil.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Lavinia Dillard
